As a resident of California, I don't have any standing in Georgia, and legislators there don't care what I think. However, I am a patriotic Army veteran, and this news from Georgia absolutely fries me. The state of Georgia is permitting an automobile license display of the emblem most commonly associated with the Confederacy, the "stars and bars" battle flag.
This symbol, which is inextricably linked with treason and slavery, is approved and now used to generate revenue for the state of Georgia.
As a liberal, I will defend the right of some iggerant country boy to sport this offensive symbol anywhere on his truck but the part issued by the state. The state has no more business soliciting funds with the Confederate battle flag than the state of New York would have for issued a "Benedict Arnold" plate. I could not be any more offended by a plate bearing a swastika.
If you live in Georgia, if you are even half as patriotic and pissed as I am, and get free long distance on one of your phone plans, do what I can't do. Call someone or everyone in your state delegation who has to listen to you, and then make them listen.
If just one of you does it, at least it will represent my thoughts on the matter to the people responsible. Thanks for reading this far.
