Tim Sheridan is running for Congress in the 42nd District of California. CA-42 is a conservative district, and has a Cook PVI of R+10. That would normally make this race almost impossible against a Republican, but Tim is running against Ken Calvert. Calvert has accomplished virtually nothing in the 20 years he has served in Congress, and has little or no personal popularity in the district.
Tim has been working non-stop since he launched his campaign back in September, and the momentum is growing. Tim is not independently wealthy, so he is working to build as broad a coalition as possible both within and beyond the district. The number of volunteers on Tim's campaign this early in the election season has been uplifting, but as many in the Daily Kos community know, a campaign cannot win without raising enough money. Our position is that it's not necessary to outraise Republicans like Ken Calvert, but it's necessary to raise enough to get the message out to the community.
Please take a moment to read about the issues important to Tim. To get more involved, visit the Sheridan Campaign website, or consider making a donation of $5 (or more, if you are able):

Below is Tim's statement regarding the issues he is focusing on for the race in CA-42. As mentioned above, the district has a PVI rating of R+10, so Tim is focused on common sense issues that have broad appeal, while remaining true to his Democratic principles.
Of the most important policy goals for our county, the following are my top priorities: I am committed to creating good paying jobs by supporting infrastructure repair, environmental protection and the continued development of green technology in California's 42nd District and across the country. I am also committed to implementing comprehensive immigration reform, including a sensible road to citizenship for those who are undocumented. I am committed to supporting public education for all children and I will work to protect Social Security benefits for seniors and to those entitled to the program.
My campaign slogan is “People First.” When I am elected, in addition to what I have outlined above, I will:
• Support legislation to ensure that workers and especially those in the military earn a fair and appropriate wage;
• Support measures to ensure that military personnel and their families get the benefits to which they are entitled as quickly and efficiently as possible;
• Acknowledge and provide appropriate responses to the causes of significant climate changes in climate in order to reverse the damage to our earth, atmosphere and water;
• Support restoration of the Voting Rights Act to guarantee voting rights to all Americans;
• Support measures to ensure that the Affordable Care Act works as it was intended through the necessary fine-tuning of the legislation necessary to achieve the goal;
• Support a woman’s right to make her own decisions about health care, including her reproductive health;
• Support appropriate regulation of banking and other financial services industries;
• Support legislation to regulate and limit the practice of hydraulic fracturing with the goal of eventually eliminating it;
• Support technological and medical research without litmus tests;
• Ensure that college students have reasonable access to a higher education through appropriate regulation of student loan programs;
• Ensure that fair and equal laws include LGBT persons;
• Gather the necessary resources to address traffic issues in California’s 42nd district.
