But I am going over to the Pacific Green Party. I know, I know. There are only 250,000 Registered Greens in the US at the moment, and it seems quite impossible that a Green could EVER be elected to the US House or Senate, or in most places, county clerk or Deputy Sheriff. Nonetheless, I am leaving the Democratic Party.
The recent NASA report outlining the need for drastic, rapid economic change is one factor. The recent hijacking of a fossil fuel powered bomb, which we dont know how to find, is another. The Meta Wars here, members locked into their trenches eyeing each other over no man's land on every issue, is another. The obvious climate changes here and elsewhere, another. The inability of either major party leaders to swear off money, position, prestige, and power for the sake of the country, another. The rapidly diminishing time in which we have to act, yet another reason. The growth of the National Security State, the Deep State and the Money Power, the most compelling of all. The faith in Higher and Higher consumer and industrial technology, while sacrificing the living spirit of the land and the people, is another. The absolute near- silence here around authentic living philosophers of our own time, Wendell Berry and Diane Ravitch, as well as Richard Wolfe and Noam Chomsky, is a testament to the ignorance of real ideas or real solutions to current dilemmas.
In most all of these areas, I have found most Democrats to be paralyzed into a permanent nostalgia for times gone by, fearful or unable to form coherant responses to our new and desperately urgent problems. I am hoping the Pacific Greens are more able to articulate a coherant vision, and form a viable alternative to the Major Two.
I thank Daily Kos for its educational value, its emphasis on (mostly) unfettered debate, its passion, its gathering of Progressives and Liberals and Labor and Center-Left Pragmatists in a one-stop shopping for comments on all the events of the last few years. I celebrate Kos and his success and forming a new force for Progressive ideas and politics.
I will not give up my membership here, unless required to do so, since I am no longer about electing More and Better Democrats, but instead, One Green. I will not comment, or diary, but would love to occasionally see what people say on some issues. So this is not a GBCW unless the CW says goodbye to me. I expect to lose my TU Status, and that is fine. I also expect to be banned, but that is less fine. I hope the tent is still big enough for sympathetic but disagreeing lurkers who are not Democrats here.
Thank you to all, and especially LillithGardener whose constancy in the Firearms Policy forum is a force of nature. I cannot keep up with her. I think few can.
Adios, and most of all, best of luck to all here. May the wind always be at your back, and the sun always rising.
