Nancy, I just read a quote attributed to you, and if you could make this clear I think that would go a long way to helping us understand the state of our democracy; or at least end some discussions that have gone on vis-a-vis the various secret agencies we have.
[NOTE: she spoke about the CIA specifically, but I'd think it would apply to many if not all the other stalkers. Emphasis is mine.]
“I’ll tell you, you take on the intelligence community, you’re a person of courage, and [Sen. Feinstein's recent complaints--jp] she does not do that lightly. Not without evidence, and when I say evidence, documentation of what it is that she is putting forth.”
Pelosi added that she has always fought for checks and balances on CIA activity and its interactions with Congress: “You don’t fight it without a price because they come after you and they don’t always tell the truth.
I'm curious as to:
What price could they possibly extract from Congress people, engaged as they are in lawful and necessary oversight?
They come after you? What!? On what authority? How do they 'come after you' precisely? That point really needs to be cleared up. Really.
Why does it take courage for the elected representatives of the American People to simply do their job when it comes to spy agencies?
Can you share with us what things they've been lying about?
Just curious, no particular reason. Still...
I also wonder what you made of President Carter's recent remark that "The United States is no longer a functioning Democracy" upon the revelation of the extent of spying a few months ago.
