Well, I must say it is really nice to have some exciting, positive news to report from Wisconsin. A consortium of Madison area labor and religious organizations is bringing North Carolina's Moral Monday movement to Wisconsin!
Moral Monday meets Wisconsin Uprising. This will be a historic event! If you are anywhere near Madison on Thursday, March 13, get yourself to Bethel Lutheran Church to hear inspiring words from Rev. Barber followed by a call-and-response style sing along led by movement historian and musician Yara Allen. Regular followers of the Wisconsin Uprising know that we badgers love to sing, so I expect the rafters to be rattling like they never have before!
As much as I am looking forward to the event scheduled for that evening, I have been told that Rev. Barber and gospel singer extraordinaire Yara Allen are also planning to join the Solidarity Sing Along at the state Capitol at noon that day. Just two days before, the Solidarity Sing Along will have celebrated its third anniversary of singing labor and civil rights songs at the Wisconsin Capitol every weekday from noon to 1 p.m.
Like hundreds of Moral Monday participants, the peaceful singers in Wisconsin have been arrested and ticketed while standing up for labor and civil rights, so we have a lot to talk about.
