President Obama would like to retain a Democratic Senate after 2014.
1. Mary Landrieu (D) Louisiana
With 43,000 jobs and a more energy-independent America on the line, this new study underscores what has been said all along about Keystone XL Pipeline: it’s time to build. … This single project will inject billions of dollars into Louisiana and national economies and reduce our dependence on oil from hostile countries. Once again, another study has concluded that the Keystone XL Pipeline will have no significant impact on our environment. If we wait any longer to approve this project, we risk losing it for good. The studies are complete and the country is ready. I urge the Administration to act swiftly and give final approval so we can put people to work in these good-paying jobs right away and our refineries in Louisiana and Texas can keep refining this energy from our friendly ally, Canada.

2. Mark Pryor (D) Arkansas
It’s been nearly 5 years since the Keystone was first proposed. During this time, we’ve done numerous studies and gotten the go ahead from all the states along the route. Yet, the President is still sitting on this valuable opportunity. That’s why I joined a bipartisan group of senators on legislation that would give Congress the authority to approve the pipeline and create thousands of jobs here at home.

It’s frustrating that we are still standing here, five years later, pressing the President to approve this common-sense project. …The reasons to approve this pipeline are straightforward and simple: the Keystone XL pipeline would offer secure supply of energy from a trusted ally, create much-needed jobs, and provide a boost to our economy. It’s time for this administration to quit dragging its feet and approve this energy source once and for all.

4. Kay Hagan (D) North Carolina
Now that Nebraska has approved an alternative route, I encourage President Obama to quickly approve the Keystone XL Pipeline that will create thousands of American jobs while providing energy security for our country,” Hagan said. “We must reduce our dependence on oil imported from unstable countries, and this pipeline should be part of a comprehensive effort that includes clean and renewable energy to make our nation more secure.

I believe moving oil in the pipeline is much safer than moving it on rail or in trucks. But there are come caveats that come with developing the Keystone Pipeline. We need to have a response plan in place so if that pipeline does break we react to it quickly. We need to make sure we are using the best materials available to build the pipeline with. We need to make sure that pipe is being built in the United States so that it's creating jobs and improving our economy. And, we need to take into account the impact on landowners.

6. Bruce Braley (D) Iowa
I’m encouraged that this bill will help expedite the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. The pipeline project is an opportunity to create thousands of jobs in Iowa and the Midwest and reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. Environmental concerns must be addressed, and this bill provides an avenue to air those concerns to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. … Keystone XL has attracted rare bipartisan support because of the enormous economic benefits it will provide. It should move forward quickly once it’s approved.

7. Natalie Tennant (D) West Virginia
If the President wants to promote opportunity, he needs to rethink his energy policies. The President is wrong on coal and I will fight him or anyone else who wants to take our coal jobs. … At the height of our water crisis, no one could tell us how harmful the chemical was or what levels were safe. But, the EPA has time to go after our coal jobs in West Virginia? That doesn’t make sense. The EPA needs a new set of priorities.
