And Why We Must Stand Against It
From time to time, we hear people use demeaning or dehumanising perjoratives to describe others who are racially, ethnically or religiously different from the local majority. We should bear in mind that some of the worst brutality committed by Man against Man has occurred in the setting of just such dehumanisation. We’ve seen this in Hitler’s Nazi Germany, the lynchings that occurred in the Jim Crow south, ethnic massacres in Kosovo and the unspeakable ongoing horrors in Syria. We even hear our elected President described with such hatred.
Now comes yet another act of barbarism from Overland Park Kansas, no doubt fueled by this sort of bigoted language.

One can only wonder if the use of this type of language comes from true hatred and meanness or just plain ignorance.
All must bear in mind that every individual is just that and is entitled to the same human rights and dignity afforded to every other human and should be judged as an individual, not as part of a larger group.
I recently heard a friend of some 30 years refer to President Obama as a nigger. As painful as it was, I decided that no friendship was worth tolerance of such racially motivated epithets. President Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School. I winder how the former friend’s application was received.
Those of us who are vehemently opposed to this mentality have to speak up when we encounter it or those who condone bigotry have won the day.
