Customers "appreciating" Chick-Fil-A gay-bashing in Port Charlotte, Florida on August 01, 2012 (Chick-Fil-A appreciation day).
Yup, pigs are starting to fly.
Slate reports that in a really incredible move the company Chick-Fil-A
has announced that they are responding to the majority of their customers by beginning to offer antibiotic free chicken. “Our market research showed that 70 percent of Chick-fil-A customers we researched think about antibiotics usage and wonder whether it is necessary,” says company spokeswoman Tiffany Greenway. This is amazing in that their customers tend to be people who would agree with their ignorant gay-bashing. Really who else would want to support their homophobic agenda by supporting them financially?
The last time Chick-fil-A made national news was for homophobic comments: In 2012, COO Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that the company was “guilty as charged” when it came to not supporting marriage equality and later said that “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation” by legalizing gay marriage.
Outrage ensued. Politicians in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco said they hoped Chick-fil-A would stay away from their cities, and the Muppets ended a promotion deal.
This is good news that the anti-science crowd has somehow managed to assimilate the information that the rest of us accept: that the over whelming amount of poultry sold in the US is raised using low doses of antibiotics in its feed. That practice is creating antibiotic resistant strains of pathogens that is endangering public health by creating
"super bugs" resistant to available antibiotic treatment.
What comes next? Is it too optimistic to hope that there will be a breakthrough in their understanding of climate change?
