Rep. Steve King is fed up with being the poster child for Republican xenophobia, and he's
not going to take it anymore.
"This is what I get from Senator Chuck Schumer," King said. "He decided he would target me and blame me for the things he believes are failures of the entire House of Representatives."
What followed was a laundry-list speech of all the bad things Schumer or anyone else has ever said about Steve King followed by various pronouncements of
nuh-uh. All of it was just as conspiratorial and nonsensical and blisteringly dimwitted as you would expect from Steve King—for example, King's offered theory that he has a higher percentage of "real American citizens" in his Iowa district than Democrats do in their own because Democrats have plotted to boost their districts' population with nasty illegal brown people. And Steve King knows who the real extremists are:
"Chuck Schumer represents the extreme outliers and they are socialists, Marxists, progressive, liberal Democrats," King said.
Wait,
this bit's good too:
"Xenophobia. I had to look that up when I came to this Congress -- we don't use it on the streets where I come from, but I've known its definition for a long time," he said.
Please read below the fold for more ridiculousness from King.
The man's a walking Onion article. Anyway, Rep. King capped off his little tirade with a demand that Sen. Chuck Schumer publicly duel him.
"If we're going to have some kind of a challenge of rhetoric bouncing back between the House and Senate, let's do it face to face," King said on the House floor. "Let's do it eye to eye. Let's have that duel, not like Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton -- but I would be the one standing on the high ground on that. But let's do it like real men do it today. Not dueling pistols at 50 paces, let's do this with microphones within arm's reach."
The response:
When @SteveKingIA lets the House debate comprehensive #immigration reform on the floor, I'll happily debate him. -cs
— @SenSchumer
So there's Rep. Steve King, the man who has proudly led the revolt against the notion of any immigration reform whatsoever because otherwise we'll be overwhelmed with melon-calved drug mules. Enjoy him, Republicans, you have
earned him.
