Just hypothetical at this point, but as Daily Kos readers are well aware, since there was no Democratic Primary, did Democratic voters cross over and vote for Brat?
From the VA Votesmart:
VOTER REGISTRATION
Registration Deadline: The registration deadline to vote in the primary and general election is 22 days before the election. If there is a special election the registration deadline is 13 days before the election and if the Governor calls a special election the deadline is 7 days.
Party Affiliation: Virginia is an open primary state which means that any qualified voter can vote in either party's primary election. Virginia does not have party registration in its voter registration process. In other words, citizens do not designate a political party affiliation when registering to vote in Virginia. The only restriction is when more than one political primary is held on the same day, also known as a dual primary. While Virginia election law stipulates that any qualified voter may vote in either political party's primary, no voter may vote in more than one political party's primary on the same election day.
Since the polls completely blew it, and there was no Democratic primary, could enough Democratic voters have voted in the Republican Primary to vote in Brat and explain what happened?
There was an earlier diary by nuketeacher that had 2 voters that did it.
I'll put my tinfoil hat on now.....
