I just got a phone call asking if I wanted to volunteer for Alison Lundergan Grimes campaign. She was a sweet sounding young woman, and I told her the truth about my feelings toward Grimes.
No, I didn't jump down her throat.
I was honest in that I was on the fence about doing any volunteer work for Grimes because of my unhappiness with her position on kynect and the ACA. I told her that I was going to vote for Grimes in the fall because I could never support McConnell, but I did not like the fact that Grimes refuses to talk about kynect. I went on about how I thought Grimes was not showing any leadership, and I was passionate about this issue because I am one of those who got Medicaid because of kynect. Furthermore, "I would be up shit's creek without it."
I also complained that I had heard nothing back from the campaign about my concerns after several repeated email about this matter. I had heard nothing but "radio silence." Granted, I admitted that I did not expect Grimes and her campaign to jump when some guy like me wrote. But on such an important issue, I felt that Grimes needed to address kynect and the ACA.
As someone who has been on the receiving end of diatribes on the phone, I know exactly how she must have felt. But I did keep my voice level, and I was direct and to the point. I did not rule out working for Grimes, but I told her that she could contact me in the future for help.
She was very professional, and she told me she would relay my views to the campaign. Whether she does or not, who knows? But I got to give my two cents to Grimes campaign on a critical issue for myself and 400,000 other Kentuckians.
I thought I would share this with you all on Daily Kos.
