San Francisco’s Roman Catholic archbishop, Salvatore Cordileone, addressed his decision to speak at the March for Marriage in Washington, D.C., this Thursday that the event is "not an attack on gays and lesbians".
“The March for Marriage is not ‘anti-LGBT’ (as some have described it); it is not anti-anyone or anti-anything,” Cordileone said in a letter released Monday. “Rather, it is a pro-marriage march. The latter does not imply the former. Rather, it affirms the great good of bringing the two halves of humanity together so that a man and a woman may bond with each other and with any children who come from their union.”
This coming from a man who helped bankroll and promote Prop. 8, to ban same sex marriage in the state of California.
This man just violated the 8th commandment, and in doing so, has committed a mortal sin.
A List of Mortal and Venial Sins
For a sin to be Mortal [Deadly, Fatal to Heaven], it must meet ALL THREE Standards of this Check-Off List, simultaneously.
1) It must be a SERIOUS MATTER [or believed to be a Serious Matter], and only potentially serious matters, by the most conservative standard that I could find, are listed on this Check-Off.
2) Before the Sin, a person must have been mindful of the serious wrong, having reflected on the gravity of the situation, with SUFFICIENT REFLECTION, beforehand.
3) A person must have freely chosen to commit the Sin, with the full consent of the FREE WILL, in spite of possible coercion.
For those of you who skipped religious school, let me refresh your memories:
EIGHTH COMMANDMENT -- Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor. [Exodus 20:16]
The "good" archbishop, in a publicly released letter to address his critics for participating in this hate-fest, went on to write:
“simply for taking a stand for marriage as it has been understood in every human society for millennia, people have lost their jobs, lost their livelihoods, and have suffered other types of retribution, including physical violence. It is true that historically in our society violence has been perpetrated against persons who experience attraction to members of the same sex, and this is to be deplored and eradicated. Sadly, though, we are now beginning to see examples, although thankfully not widespread, of even physical violence against those who hold to the conjugal view of marriage.”
Let's unpack this shall we?
First, "as understood in every human society for millennia": which millennia is he referring to? Certainly not any of the millennia for the past 5000 years, where polygamy has been rampant, and still exists even today. Certainly not even in "Christian" Europe in the past 1000 years, where formal marriages were only undertaken as rites of property transfer/inheritance, and many never entered into legally blessed/sanctioned relationships. The man is either a liar or an ignoramus.
And people have even been subjected to VIOLENCE for opposing same sex unions? REALLY? I must have missed the news stories of this epidemic of LGBT gangs attacking the faithful flock of the good father.
This would be comical if it wasn't so hurtful to so many people. To participate in a march sponsored by some of the most homophobic lying scumbugs on the face of the earth and to defend this participation as just another act of conscience is disgusting.
Go work in a soup kitchen or do something productive, you nasty bitter little man, instead of traipsing around in fancy dress up followed by a retinue of men in costume like some parody of gay men in the 1920's.
7:33 PM PT: Update: if you wish to contact the archbishop...well...along with his retrograde views on gay marriage it seems that the good father doesn't have an email address...in the heart of America's technology hub you can only contact his office by telephone or Fax...but there is an Office of Public Policy: publicpolicy@sfarchdiocese.org
