Happy weekend, hope it finds everyone well! Randall is working his magic out of town, where his formidable skills don't quite extend to conjuring diaries. When he asked me to cover and include some pictures, I realized all my photos for the week are of either art or crime.
Since I've already diaried the crime (still no significant updates on what happened there,) we'll have to go with art, and some thoughts on taking my art from hobby to business. My kitchen table a week before a show:
We never actually eat here. The light's too good.
That show, the
HarrisburgARTWalk, was today. It went well. A few times, perfect strangers even handed me their plastic and walked away with my work.
It was both exhausting and exhilarating. I used to run competitively, but not very well -- a finish was good enough for me. It feels like I finished a race after months of training, complete with joint pain, dehydration, and desperate need of a shower.
And determination to get up and keep training tomorrow.
We practiced setting up and breaking down the tent and displays and got up at 5:30 to have everything onsite at 7:30 for the show. By 9:00 I wasn't glistening, I was dripping with sweat and my hair was irredeemably frizzed out. DH went out for sports drinks; someone offered him cash for them on on the street. The humidity was kicking ass long before the heat set in.
Show tent prep:
The week before
Onsite, prior to opening. We soon moved the shirt rack out to the sidewalk, and brought the jewelry table to the front of the booth.
Almost open for business
You can't see the baby onesies in this view, but they were big attention-getters. The one on the top left sold.
Back to the beads. I picked up the bead painting by accident while looking for specific colors for a bracelet. It dawned on me to paint my own.
Of course I couldn't stop there, so I started using different colors and stringing them. These are ready for sealer:
Sealed and strung:
The whole display:
At last, a use for the gazillions of paint chips I acquire and can't bear to part with: earring cards! I don't do a lot of earrings, but I love these simple drops made with natural healing stones.
That's what's happening here. What's new in your corner of Western NC and the world?
Note: I'll probably crash early tonight but will hang around as long as I can, then check back in the late morning.
