I understand racism is based on ignorance. Mostly of my own experience growing up and watching as the results of the sacrifices made by those in the Civil Rights Movement came to fruition. To a small extent. Racism and discrimination are still rampant. As evidenced by the tone deaf move made by Legislators in Virginia.
They want to form a state level political caucus in order to further the continuation of the discrimination of Native Americans through the blatantly racist named team the "Redskins".
Ramadan (R-Loudon), a fan since the mid-1980s, said he plans to form a “Redskins Pride Caucus” with Del. Jackson Miller (R-Manassas), Sen. Chap Petersen (D-Fairfax City) and other Virginia legislators to represent fans of the professional football team.
Last week, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office canceled the football team’s registration. According to a 99-page decision by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, the team’s name and logo are disparaging.
Opponents of the team’s name view it as a racial slur against Native Americans.
Sadly, this is a bipartisan effort.
Because apparently multimillion dollar franchises are in urgent need of state protection.
As opposed to residents requiring clean drinking water.
