Meanwhile back at Deadbeat Ranch, Cliven Bundy went on the radio to ostensibly query local sheriff candidates, who had come a-courting his endorsement.
Let me back up. There are candidates for elected office who actually covet Cliven Bundy's endorsement. I can only presume this is because Jeffrey Dahmer was beaten to death in his jail cell 20 odd years ago. But I digress.
Bundy, as it turns out, did not ask questions, but instead just pontificated for a while into what he had correctly guessed was a microphone.
One of the points he managed to make clear was that he was not interested in any sort of parlay with "peacemakers" of any sort:
"If you're gonna be a peacemaker, you're gonna be on the BLM side."
In other words, there is nothing for anybody to negotiate. He's in it to win it -- it being the right to continue using Federal land however he pleases, to continue flouting the law and law enforcement, and to continue to harass and threaten neighbors he sees as insufficiently loyal to the cause.
As if that isn't crazy enough, all three sheriff's candidates in attendance promised him they would have "done more" if they were sheriff during the standoff, dadgummit. One candidate promised Bundy that if he were sheriff he would have deputized Bundy's entire militia. Another promised him he would have personally arrested the Federal agents who showed up back on April 18th to enforce the law.
Bundy, apparently unmoved by their reckless allegiance, endorsed none of them.
