Boy, am I in trouble. I just learned that the Secret Service will be using software programs that can identify sarcasm! In that respect, I am a bit like Ivory Soap, 99.998 pure, unadulterated, Vintage '57 Snark, with a nice aroma of curmudgeonly, the scent of irony mixed with scorn, a complex hint of puns, and the aftertaste of sarcasm so strong, that Coke wanted to bottle it to keep chrome rust free.
The Secret Service request for the software, first reported by nextgov.com, was posted on Monday.
Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said the request would allow the agency to create its own system for monitoring Twitter - both its own presence in social media and important issues that are trending on the social network.
"Our objective is to automate our social media monitoring process," Mr Donovan said. "Twitter is what we analyse. This is real-time stream analysis. The ability to detect sarcasm and false positives is just one of 16 or 18 things we are looking at."

Sigh. It is obvious why they are doing this. They want complete control of those tiny little tubes that Darpa laid so long ago.
The whirled as I know it is coming to an end. So sad.
Question. Why do they still call themselves Secret if everyone knows about them?
