Press Release, as found on Andy Harris' website.
Andy's been in office for 3-1/2 years ... when is he going to take responsibility for the Eastern Sho' ?
Screaming headline:
REP HARRIS CONDEMNS USE OF CARROLL SITE TO HOUSE FOREIGN NATIONAL MINORS
Andy, R-Lipton, is the Congressman from Maryland's 1st District. Through the magic of gerrymandered districts (which we term the O'Malleymander) he is guaranteed a life term in the House as Maryland's token Republican.
He won't let you forget he went to med school. That qualifies him to worry about "health risks" from these FNMs. You'd think, instead of voting againt the Affordable Care Act in whole or part 55 times, he's worry about the known and quantifiable health risks that his uninsured constituents run every day.
Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., [see? see? told you] urged the Department of Health and Human Services to reject consideration of the former Army Reserve Center at 404 Malcom Drive, Westminster, MD, as a facility for the temporarily housing of children who have come into the United States from other countries without an adult guardian.
Because members of Congress are not being given unscripted access to HHS facilities, the potential health risks to the community are unknown. Should HHS attempt to proceed with housing them at this facility, Congressman Harris will use any and all resources at his disposal as a member of the House Appropriations Committee and in particular the subcommittee that oversees the HHS budget to stop this.
Andy went on to say:
“These unaccompanied minors who have entered our nation illegally must not be brought to Carroll County Maryland. Flying them to Maryland only to turn around and fly them back home is nonsensical. Instead, President Obama should immediately return them to their nation of origin. President Obama created this problem and now he should fix it. Should this Administration attempt to put them in Carroll County, I will use every tool at my disposal though the appropriations process to stop this.”
Now I'm not quite sure what this means, but I don't think the Founding Guys figured Congress would pass laws, refuse to adapt them, and then decide not to pay for what their laws demand.
