The Daily Bucket is a regular series from the Backyard Science group. Here we talk about Mother Nature in all her glory, especially the parts that live nearby. So let us know (as close as you are comfortable) where you are and what's going on around you. What's the weather like? Seen any interesting plants, bugs or critters? Are there birds at your feeders? Deer, foxes or peahens in your yard? Seen any cool rocks or geological features? Post your observations and notes here. And photos. We like lots of photos. :)
Last week I went back to eastern Pennsylvania, where I grew up, to visit my sister and her kids. And here are some critters and wild things I saw during my visit (most of these are from the Gettysburg battlefield; a few are from Central Park in New York City).
House Sparrow
A leaf gall. There were a lot of these. I split one open to see what was in it, but it was empty--the occupant had already made a small hole out the bottom through the leaf.
Coneflower
Rudbeckia Black-Eyed Susans
Central Park Squirrel
Water Strider
Mountain Laurel (I think)
Tulip Poplar
Eastern Cottontail Rabbit
Praying Mantis
Turkey Vulture
Robin
Bumblebee
Butterfly
And now it's your turn--let us know what's going on in your neck of the woods. :)
