The drought in California just got real in Paradise. Paradise Irrigation District (PID) is "very concerned." The State of California told Paradise they are going to curtail Paradise
from keeping any water that flows into and through it by implementing the 1914 law that gives those in southern California "first rights" to northern California water.
All of our water comes form two creeks that flow into two reservoirs. One is called the Magalia Reservoir and the other is Paradise Lake. Paradise Lake ended up 86% full this year after some late rains finally came in March and gets all it's water from Little Butte Creek. It is currently at 76% capacity. PID asked us all to voluntarily decrease our water consumption by 20%. It turns out we citizens have done that. Actually we've decreased our water consumption by 21% it turns out. But now we are suddenly in big trouble.
Paradise consumes 7000 acre-feet of water per year. That really isn't much as we only have 26.000 residents. As of four days ago, we had 9,302 acre-feet of water left in the Paradise Lake. This lake always goes down in summer then fills back up with our winter rains. Now California has told us starting July 14, 2014 they will implement the 1914 water rule which will be in effect for 270 days and won't be lifted until April 14, 2015 which is AFTER the winter rains. Typically it rains from November until April. After that we get nothing except an occasional thunderstorm.
So Paradise will be down to around 2,300 acre-feet of water and will be required to let ALL water flow through Paradise Lake. We won't be allowed to collect any of it next winter. What are we going to do? No one knows. This is really scary in truth. Our town's lawyer is trying to do something with the state, but the state has already said, "Nope."
So what this all boils down to in reality is southern California saying "It sucks being you" to northern California. Droughts are not real to them down there because they live in a desert and get all their water from northern California and the Colorado River. They truly don't care what happens to the little towns up north because it doesn't affect them. Out of site - out of mind, right? Stay tuned.

Here's a great little app. Go to AllAreGreen.us to download a version for whatever browser you use provided it's Chrome, Firefox or Safari (sorry IE). What it does is tell you what industries are paying any politicians. You get to see how much each industry is giving these folks so as to more easily see who controls our Congress Critters.
I downloaded it and it works automatically. I wrote some comments in Connect Unite Act a couple days ago speaking of Doug LaMalfa (R), my US House Representative. Well his name was just highlighted in pale beige and underlined after I got the app. Then you hover your cursor over his name and voila! A pop-up shows you which industry's gave him money. Unfortunately it doesn't let us know about any SuperPak money because, of course, that is secret, dark money. Check it out. I've put some pictures up below.
Below you'll see a screen shot of what I was talking about. Now whenever a politician's name comes up, it is highlighted in pale beige and underlined:
Below is a screen shot of what happens when you place your cursor over the name of a highlighted politician:

I've been writing about Picts (Scotland wild folk from way back). mimi asked if Picts was even an English word. Well, here's the answer. They were notorious for being extremely tough. As a matter of fact, the Romans first called them Caledonii, which means "great, hard, tough people." They built Hadrian's Wall from coast to coast to keep them up north. That's the inspiration for the Great Wall in Game of Thrones. The Wildlings are the Picts in Game of Thrones. The area the Picts lived in was called Caledonia by the Roman's.
These Calidonii were always nearly naked and all tattooed up. The Romans started calling them Picti due to this. Picti is Roman for "painted people." So the English word picture comes from Pict which is also an English word by way of the Romans.
