Rematch! Please!
Let it be recorded: On Monday, July 7, 2014, Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced his 2016 presidential campaign. Well, not in so many words, but for all intents and purposes, that's what
this pettiness amounted to:
Gov. Rick Perry Monday turned down what he characterized as President Barack Obama’s offer for a “quick handshake on the tarmac” at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Wednesday, but said he would juggle his schedule to accommodate a “substantive meeting” with the president on the border crisis any time during his two-day visit to Texas.
But instead of getting snippy at Perry's childish snub, the White House decided to call Perry's bluff and
offered to rearrange the president's schedule in order to have just such a meeting:
Jarrett, senior advisor to President Obama, replied to Perry affirmatively, saying, “The president would welcome a meeting with you while he is in Texas.”
So what began as Rick Perry scoring some 2016 points by heroically standing up to President Obama will end with him sitting down with the president. Ooops.
11:04 AM PT: Hold on, not so fast! Perry might be trying to find himself a way out of the meeting after all:
Earnest on a possible private Obama-Perry meeting: Nothing's on the books so far, but "the scheduling's still coming together"
