For me, Granny Palin is like the anti-EF Hutton. When she speaks, I don't listen. But apparently some people do, like Louie Gohmert. Frankly, I would turn to Gomer Pyle before him if I wanted sage advice on anything. But OK, I am going to go all Roberto Duran and cry, "No mas!" (Good Lord, like Granny Palin, I am showing my age, aren't I?)
So the charges are flying thick and fast - impeachment! Over running our borders! Secret plans to dilute our gene pool! We need to send militias! Hysteria! End times! Good times!
Temporary lay offs. - Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times.
Scratchin' and surviving. - Good Times.
Hangin in a chow line - Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em - Good Times.
Sorry, I was doing the Time Warp. But I'm back... where were we? Oh, yeah - GOP screaming about "the borders" and such...
So what happens? The White House decides to cave to pressure and asks for $3.7 billion to secure the border. Do the lobbyists in Congress smell the opportunity to seize up tons of cash? If you said "Yes" you must be high. Of course they said No!
Describing Obama's request as a "blank check," several top Republicans slammed the proposal. In interviews and statements issued Tuesday, GOP House members — the chief obstacle to any Obama proposal — signaled that they are unlikely to go along with this funding proposal, which is a sizable ask for funding on one of the nation's most divisive political issue that comes just months before the midterm elections.
Obviously, having left
science for superstition, the Republicans are giving up on arithmetic as well. Last I looked, $3.7 billion is not a "blank check" -- you see, there is a number there, right?
But never mind. I like the other reason Luntz cooked up for them:
President Obama created this disaster at our southern border and now he is asking to use billions of taxpayer dollars without accountability or a plan in place to actually stop the border crisis.
This is why Luntz gets paid the big bucks! See what they did there? Not only do they get to pin the blame on Obama for a problem he didn't create. They get to infantalize him by responding like stern parents. "You broke the fence in the backyard and you want ME to fix it? This is coming out of your allowance, young man!"
It is so predictable it is almost comical. Actually, Key & Peele nailed this a couple years ago in their sketch comedy. (If you know how to embed Comedy Central videos, let me know.)
Speaking of funny. You know what would be funny? If someone put together a mashup of all the things Republicans demanded, Obama accepted, and they rejected. It would make "This is Spinal Tap" look like Don't Look Back".
Why all the archaic references? Why not? You think there is a future to this sort of nonsense? The GOP has proven once again their legislative agenda is as full as Al Capone's vault!
