Sen. McConnell campaigned today in Leitchfield, Kentucky (Grayson County).
He was very worked up about the Estate Tax. He calls it the Death Tax.
And that Democrats love it. Won't even let you die without paying it.
Let's look at the death tax. Kicks in for estates over $5.25 million.
If you're a couple . . . that threshold is $10.5 million.
Now to Grayson County. It's a small county 80 miles from Louisville. Not particularly memorable. It's dry. You can't get a drink. But it is no center of commerce. There isn't old money from manicured horse farms -- this is not Bluegrass country. Median household income is $27,000. That means half the folks make LESS than $27,000.
Meth is a problem.
There is some money there. Sure. Dated a girl in law school. Her Daddy had plenty.
But he was practically the richest fella in Leitchfield. [Caneyville actually.]
I digress.
Is McConnell trying? He runs on the death tax in a county where it could only apply to a handful of people at best. If that. And that assumes those extremely wealthy Grayson County residents acquired that wealth and never thought about estate planning.
So it is his argument . . .reelect me again (for a 6th time) so I can fight against the estate tax. For your community . . .where no one pays it.
I think he IS trying and assumes his audience are rubes.
Which is worse in my judgment. I'm running for reelection . . .and I think you are so stupid that I will make arguments that are transparently against your interests.
And his other argument, at this point, is that Grimes is better at leasing buses than him . . .more coming on that question if you haven't read it lately.
The Zen of McConnell is . . . real
