The world is full of suffering people, and there are some people in the world who can think about all the suffering on a regular basis and not have it get to them. I am not one of those people.
Now, when you realize how much reality can drag one down, you begin to realize how Republicans can live in their little plastic bubbles denying the reality of poor people. Humans really are fragile and can really only handle limited amounts of pain. I really believe that most Republicans believe their own ideas. I also believe they may not examine their own beliefs because maybe it is just too painful for them. Yes, we do need to change their minds, and yes, it is fun to make jokes about them, but when our criticism of them seems to border on hate, I think it hurts us more than it hurts them.
One other thing, why is television filled with so many shows with so much negativity? Do we really need so many shows involving murder? Also, we used to have shows about defense attorneys and private investigators...Perry Mason, Barnaby Jones, Cannon, Magnum P.I. Nowadays we have way too many shows which are about the police or some extended version of the police like C.S.I. where we keep seeing the accused being told how evil they are and given the idea that the police almost always end up charging the right person. I am also a little dumbfounded by "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". Can people really watch another story about someone being sexually assaulted, week after week, without it affecting them?
I like the movie "It's A Wonderful Life". Could we have more shows about people helping other people? Must so much of tv show us the dregs of society, real or imagined?
Well, that's my rambling. What's your opinion?
Thanks,
Steve
