Mike McKenna is doing a great job campaigning door to door as the Dem nominee in this court-declared unconstitutional congressional district. I can understand that the DCCC is concentrating its efforts in states with senate elections because we need to hold the senate, but someone needs to support this guy. Even if he wasn't any good (but he is). Consider what he is running against.
Daniel Webster was a long time Tallahassee insider as a former state legislative leader, and he moved to Congress by opposing Alan Grayson in the 2010 bad year FL and many other Dems had. The reward he got from the FL GOP was that the 2012 redistricting put him in a different district from Grayson for rematch purposes. It was written that Grayson was "given" one of FL's two seat pickups in the House, but the voters who really were supposed to receive them was the large pocket of growth along the I-4 corridor who got stuck with Webster as their incumbent going in to 2012. The district was as much a gift to him as 13 had been 10 years before to Kat Harris, and as such he got elected by a smaller margin than he should have and knew his constituents were in reality the line drawers, the House and Senate GOP leadership, the GOP consultant whose firm drew the lines and then used a hacked email account to pretend they were submitted by a regular citizen.
So it's a fake district with fake constituents. How else to explain what Webster did once reelected. He was part of the majority on the House Rules Committee who met in the dead of night and essentially repealed the discharge petition rule, rending the People's House just as closed as the eternally filibustered Senate. the media made a big deal of the Senate Democrats revising the filibuster rules, but wasn't strangling the discharge petition in the House the more drastic change?
Does anyone think the "base" in Lake County wanted this? Only the party leaders wanted this, and Webster provided because he knew who put him in office. Since then, he has been part of the Rules Committee majority that has set up the lawsuit against Obama, up to and allowing the House to hire lobbyists as its outside counsel, even including those who had contracts that are affected by the Affordable Care Act which is supposedly the subject of the dispute.
Fake district. Fake constiteunts. Fake democracy in the People's House. Bringing about an expensive government shutdown no one wanted. And now poising itself to sue and let us not deny also to impeach the president. This race should be a priority simply because of the circumstances. But McKenna has worked tirelessly door to door. He is now a crack public speaker. And he's willing to go after the devil and the devil is Dan Webster.
