Oh, yes,
this happened:
Speaking during a Budget Board meeting, Yazel prefaced his remarks by saying that in the 1970s an official he described as a black Los Angeles mayor proposed hanging kidnappers in the city square as a way to end hijackings.
The mayor “said why don’t we just a hang a couple of these people in the city square and that will put a stop to it; maybe that would put a stop to some of the crime in Tulsa County,” Yazel said.
Other Tulsa officials quickly condemned his remarks, he didn't exactly back down:
“The bad guys are committing a crime and then getting out and committing it again,” he said.
“You hang them in the public square. Then they won’t do it again. Neither will some of their friends watching.”
And that "black Los Angeles mayor"? That was
“Hang ‘Em High Ed” Davis. Who passed away in 2006. And was white.
This clown has quite a history:
Yazel’s colorful life started in his family’s circus, led him through dangerous duty during Vietnam and through four failed marriages, and now finds him facing allegations he stalked a former employee.
The harassment charge by a former employee was
eventually dropped.
He's been the Tulsa County Assessor since 2002, running as a Republican and unopposed in recent re-election bids. Can we find one good Democrat in Tulsa to challenge this guy in the future?
