Dear Rich: I was not satisfied with our earlier conversation about State Farm's involvement with the right-wing political group ALEC. I've lined up some competitive quotes, and I'm ready to switch.
However, I hate to lose our long relationship, so I'm asking again if there is any change regarding that subject. I just can't abide the thought of my business with State Farm supporting an organization that stands against nearly everything compatible with my political beliefs. For example, ALEC encourages voter disenfranchisement and gun proliferation, and it opposes environmental protection and alternative energy. Recognizing the controversial nature of ALEC, many responsible companies have dropped their support and participation. Please give me a reason to change my mind.
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the email..
In all honesty, I'm not aware of any change with regard to State Farm having a member on the board of ALEC. My understanding has been that the reason for having an attorney on the board is to monitor their involvement in insurance matters only. They have no involvement in any other matters, but they are interested in economic and job development as well as free market support. State Farm is on the board of over 400 companies.
I am not aware of State Farm's involvement with regard to supporting gun control environment issues, but I would like to have any information contrary. I can also involve our State Farm contact: Phil Supple 309-202-5073. He is available to answer questions regarding ALEC.
Lastly, I value our relationship which began in 1985. I think personally we have the same beliefs. At the same time I can understand your concern and wanting to change insurance companies. Thank you.
Best,
Rich
