Just days after
a poll was released showing that Pat Lynch, spokesperson for the largest police union in New York City, has a 17 percent approval rating, he has
hilariously backed off the central tenet of his demands from Mayor de Blasio—an apology—claiming it was never really what he was looking for in the first place. Just one week ago,
he so fiercely demanded an apology that his supporters in the NYPD literally got into physical fights with other officers over it.
In a memo released by the NY Daily News, Lynch, who has been consistently hateful and outrageous for months, takes credit for a friendlier City Hall and backs off of the apology demand:
“Despite statements to the contrary, our demands have never been for a simple apology, but for clear and unequivocal expressions of support for our members and an equally strong condemnation of those who have stirred up hatred and violence towards police officers,” he wrote.
“We have also demanded that these words be backed up by concrete actions to hold anti-police agitators accountable and to protect our members from further attacks.”
“We have seen a marked and welcome shift in the mayor’s tone regarding anti-police protests, including his admonitions not to resist arrest,” Lynch wrote. “We have also seen some limited action on the part of the City Council to improve our equipment. These are a direct result of our united, vocal response to recent events.” The mayor’s office didn’t immediately respond to calls seeking comment on the union head’s memo.
In essence, Lynch is now "demanding" the very things Mayor de Blasio has been providing and advocating since the day he took office. The man's a mess.
