I am not sure if anyone has picked this up and run with it.
Intrepid Made Up Historian Newt Gingrich once again tried to rewrite history and hoped nobody would notice.
"Boko Haram has ten thousand fighters, and last year Boko Haram killed more people than Ebola. But the State Department for years, under Secretary Clinton, wouldn't even list them as a terrorist group."
Oh oopsey, whoopsey, damn, damn, damn.
The implicit argument of Gingrich's attack is dishonest -- experts, including a former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria appointed by President Bush, opposed designating Boko Haram a terror group out of concern it would empower the extremist group. Instead, in 2012 the State Department under Clinton designated the individual leaders of Boko Haram as "foreign terrorists." Reuters reported that the move was historic, noting it was the "first time [State] has blacklisted members of the Islamist group." Boko Harm went on to receive designation as a terrorist group in 2013.
They have gotten so used to getting away with this garbage that they don't even try anymore to wrap it up in a prettier package. The number of times in one day that you hear flat out "junk history" and nobody seems willing to call it out because to be quite honest..... you would probably end up doing nothing else.
It's not the case of
The Bigger the Lie, the More People Believe It
It's more a case of:
Flood the system with flat out bullshit, some of it is bound to stick.
It's something the right wing are excellent at: If first a piece of anti-abortion legislation fails rewrite it again and again and eventually something might pass. Repeal Obamacare once per week because, ya neveh know, maybe this time.
It's like the claim that bipartisanship is their thing, even as they blow up the bridge.
This time they will try to open their arms to women and minorities, only to slam the first available door in our faces.
Climate change is real by golly, but.....it's nothing to do with us.
Freedom of religion applies only to followers of the one true god, for any given amount of true.
Propose legislation that you know has zero chance of passing, then claim sabotage.
It's like the start of the "President is Black" campaign when the Republicans wouldn't call out the birthers on their blatant racism, all because they hoped it would work.
Anyway after sort of rambling and getting away form the topic...
Gingrich and dishonest go together like ham and eggs.
