"Vile" doesn't come close to describing this man accurately.
Eric Bradner of CNN
reports:
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain had harsh words for protesters who shouted criticism at 91-year-old Henry Kissinger at a hearing Thursday.
"Get out of here, you low-life scum," the Arizona Republican told the protesters. […]
"I've been a member of this committee for many years and I have never seen anything as disgraceful and outrageous and despicable as the last demonstration that just took place," McCain said.
Riiiiiiiight, Senator.
You know what's disgraceful, outrageous and despicable? The fact that this unpunished and unrepentant war criminal gets to appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee as an elder statesman (not to mention serve as emeritus adviser to John Kerry and Hillary Clinton).
Sickening. Infuriating. Maddening.
Here's Christopher Hitchens in 2010:
Henry Kissinger should have the door shut in his face by every decent person and should be shamed, ostracized, and excluded. No more dinners in his honor; no more respectful audiences for his absurdly overpriced public appearances; no more smirking photographs with hostesses and celebrities; no more soliciting of his worthless opinions by sycophantic editors and producers. One could have demanded this at almost any time during the years since his role as the only unindicted conspirator in the Nixon/Watergate gang, and since the exposure of his war crimes and crimes against humanity in Indochina, Chile, Argentina, Cyprus, East Timor, and several other places. But the latest revelations from the Nixon Library might perhaps turn the scale at last. (Click here to listen to the conversation; the offending section begins at 13:56.)
The statute of limitations should never expire on war crimes. But, since Kissinger will go to his grave without ever having faced prosecution for his actions, could we at least get our elected leaders to stop giving him public respect? Perhaps starting with the Democratic members of the Armed Services Committee walking out the next time he gets invited to testify?
Who am I kidding? When Kissinger finally does kick the bucket, he'll no doubt be feted with a glorious, lie-filled state funeral at taxpayers' expense.
