I just had to decloak from 10+ years of mostly lurking to say something.
Dear Democratic Establishment: For the first time ever, the Right has admitted that income inequality is a thing. And they are pretending to believe it's a bad thing, presumably because their polling has suggested that's a winning strategy. And, amazingly, recent pronouncements from prospective Republican presidential candidates have tried to implicate Obama and the Democrats for causing it.
In other words, the immoral, lying fucksticks on the Right are trying to steal the most important advantage you have in the electoral conversation. Are you FUCKING LISTENING? Because I'm not seeing much evidence that you are. We need more than bemused observations from Jon Stewart and Bill Maher.
If the Democrats are so absolutely compromised, tone-deaf, ineffectual, timid and incompetent that they allow the Republicans to win the framing battle on the nature, causes and cure for our ever-rising income inequality, they will have demonstrated, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are too chickenshit to ever deserve another dollar of support, another second of GOTV, or another "please kick me in the crotch again" pull of the voting lever.
Oh, they'll still get these things, because the alternative is still too awful to contemplate. But they won't fucking deserve even the tiniest bit of it.
Every last democrat in the goddam country should be pushing back, daily and loudly, at the utter ridiculousness of these statements from the party that has FOUGHT tooth and nail EVERY effort made by the left for fucking DECADES to promote policies that would reduce poverty, protect the middle class and address income inequality. If we lose this framing battle, we will lose more elections than we ever dreamed in our worst nightmare. Teaparty policies will wreck this country for the forseeable future. And without US leadership on energy policies and climate change, the planet may become a hellish dystopia sooner rather than later.
Are you listening, OFA? Hillary? Other potential candidates? DNC? DSCC? And every other group or person that claims to advocate for the 99%, for progressive principles and for the winning of elections? There should be a list (and it's a very long list) of all the ways that the Right has deliberately abetted the growth of income equality, and the ways they have blocked our efforts to address it. And every candidate, talking head, sitting office-holder and supporter should memorize it, and broadcast it every stinking day between now and Nov 2016. Stump speeches. House and Senate floor speeches. Social Media. Bar and dinner table conversations. LTEs. EVERYWHERE.
There should be an unending barrage of incredulous mockery pouring from every Democratic mouth about this utterly cynical Republican ploy. Starting yesterday. Get on it, folks. Or be finally and completely exposed for the worthless, money-driven hacks that so many of us DFHs already think so many of you are.
Thanks for listening.
