A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

WHAT IF...?
... you won the lottery. The BIG one, you know like the PowerBall interstate lottery which is over $450,000,000 (yeah, nearly half a Billion) this week and sold here in Washington State.
My mom used to play the Lottery regularly for decades. She never won much, like most people, but she did get about $4,000 once and her alcoholic 2nd husband spent it on booze and gambling. Go figure.
I used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, until I quit for the last time on October 15, 2002. Today, those death sticks would cost me about $56 a week. So I play the Lottery each week. $3 for two tickets, a $2 Powerball & a $1 MegaMillions. Money I would have wasted (and $50+ more, too) and now I'm adding to the State Education fund with part of each ticket I purchase. In the past five years I think I've won a sum total of about $40 give or take a couple bucks.
But I think about what I'd do with that kind of money, if I did win. I be giving it away by the truck loads if that $450,000,000+ came my way...
1) Pay off my and my family's mortgages and student loans.
Have a Mortgage & Loan burning party. In Hawaii. Maybe bring all y'all along for the party.
2) Pay for college education for anyone in the family who wanted to go. If they get a degree and want to train to do something else? Twice more on me. Education is a good thing. Always.
3) $25 Million to fund a Trust for Clark County, WA:
Uninsured Hospital care for working people & homeless
Refund a portion to those who paid cash for services in time payments over past five years (up to $3 Million)
$5 million dedicated to Dental care
$1 Million dedicated to Vision Care.
4) Give Occupy Wall Street's "Rolling Jubilee" (@strikedebt on Twitter) a cool $5 Million to help some of our fellow proles receive a Get Out of Student & Medical Debt Free Card.
5) Create a non-profit to hire unemployed or semi-retired 50+ at a living wage, to provide daycare for working parents and/or single parents who are students at our local community college.
6) Fix my 1996 Geo Metro. OK, I'll buy a Smart Car, too. (I love those little quiet cars of the future)
7) Start a non-profit Temporary Services firm which hires only 50+ year old labor. Experience should be a benefit when an employer is hiring. Government clerical and administrative contracts would be the target of the non-profit, and unlike corporate commercial Temporary/Contract Labor Service companies, would pass on the lion's share of the wage for the position, retaining only enough to cover the cost of the recruiters and bricks and mortar costs.
8) $10 Million to fund a WA State initiative for the Democratic Party. To organize and activate every single precinct in the entire State. Hire permanent Field Organizers to create and rollout Training seminars across the State and to prepare and organize Events for GOTV and Voter Registration.
9) $20 Million to fund a non-profit for the benefit of Veterans who need employment. Again, Government contracts would be the target for jobs.
10) $20 Million to fund a non-profit to assist Political Candidates, from local to National, who are Daily Kos members and at least willing to Caucus with the Democrats, if not a Democratic Party member, like democratic Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
That's the the cream off the top of my head, I've got a lot more ideas about what I could do, what good I could do, with that amount of money Power.
How about you? Ever engage in Instant Millionaire day dreams? Nightmares?
What would you do with that kind of money? Seriously?
Do you think it would help or hurt your family connections (the siblings, cousins and so on)? Would you keep working at your current job? Would you take a long cherished vacation somewhere exotic? Would you buy a new car? A fleet of new cars? Endow a favorite charity?
Tell me what you'd do if fortune smiled on you so hard it filled your 'lucky bucket' up permanently...
as always --

Koscadia, at it again.
We had a lovely meal together yesterday. The mood was a bit somber as we thought of our absent [Koscadia] friend, Cedwyn. The news of Cedwyn's death did not come until afterwards.
At our lunch, I received a special gift from ericlewis0 intended for both me and Ann, wrapped and framed by llbear. It was the original artwork for the Animal Nuz cartoon of Catwyn receiving her quilt. [Photo can be seen in Sara R's diary]

DKos Asheville's Roadtrip and Two-Day Retreat to Roanoke, Virginia
From randallt:
After seven successful and engaging meet ups, DKos Asheville's core members decided to take our next gathering on the road. The first reason was that our chef and benefactor for all our meet ups has been Gordon20024 and we wanted say thanks by traveling to be with him instead of having him drive to be with us. We asked and he was thrilled and so the idea was born. Another reason is that it offers us the opportunity to meet more Kossacks from around the region including Virginia and parts of North Carolina to the north and east of us.
Grow our network, grow our community, help win elections.
