The United States has a two-party system; one Democrat and one Republican; one Red and one Blue. It has become obvious though in recent years that the traditional Democrats are really just a more liberal banker/corporation's party. In 2008 Senator Barack Obama won the Presidency by way of a good campaign, no doubt, but also because he received 7 dollars to every 3 or 4 from the banks. He was the banks' preferred candidate. His policies when he took office exhibited this.
The banks were never broken up (neither via Dodd-Frank nor the Anti-Trust Division of the Department of Justice.) He never made them restructure their enterprises as he did the auto-industry. He was elected by the banks and he returned their investment in kind.
The rest of the Democratic Party has fallen victim to the same corruption. The Democrats are certainly the more liberal of the two parties, comparatively speaking. They both serve the same corporate interests though, generally speaking. They have both voted to outsource labor. They have both voted to deregulate the markets. They have both voted to raise student loan interest rates. They have both voted for war and similar foreign policy.
Giving credit where credit is due the Democrats have never voted that man-made global warming was not real. The Democrats have been more supportive of women's rights and civil rights issues. The Democrats have been more supportive of Voting Rights as well. So yes, there are differences between the two parties. Once you get past politics though, these differences are only skin deep, or a slight difference in the texture of fabric.
In truth, the most radical voting block cause hell in government has actually come from the Tea Party Republicans. Those who have broken with the traditional Republicans and created divisions where there was previously a strong voting block to oppose anything from the Democratic Party.
As the Republicans have their own wildcard faction. I think it's time for the Democrats to have their own wildcard faction. A faction which demands Wall Street accountability. A faction which demands a real, livable, minimum wage. A faction which does not compromise on women's rights or civil rights. A faction which does not so easily vote to go to war. A faction which does not compromise on changing over to renewable energies. A faction which does not compromise on rebuilding a crumbling infrastructure. A faction which does not compromise on Universal Healthcare for all (and leaves the insurance companies out of the picture.) A faction which guarantees free, quality, taxpayer-funded education for all. A faction which does not budge compromise protecting/conserving the environment at all. A faction which demands new jobs be created within the United States' borders. A faction which can deliver everyone quality internet which compares to the speed and quality of European Internet.
The list of things which this new faction of Democrats need to stand by goes on and on. To create this stubborn faction is as easy as saying "I'm a Democrat. I don't see the party color as Blue though. I see it as Gold. I don't know why you are saying the party color is Blue either because it is obviously Gold. The Democratic color is Gold for a strong economy which is based in uncompromising worker's rights, civil rights, women's rights, student's rights, sustainable energy, and a protected environment."
This is the Gold Standard for Democrats. It's as simple as a new dress. Maybe could even create a new party...
