We already know how the republicans hate Michelle Obama's Let's Move program.
First Lady Michelle Obama
Let’s Move! is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady, dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. Sure, this is an ambitious goal. But with your help, we can do it.
Combining comprehensive strategies with common sense, Let’s Move! is about putting children on the path to a healthy future during their earliest months and years. Giving parents helpful information and fostering environments that support healthy choices. Providing healthier foods in our schools. Ensuring that every family has access to healthy, affordable food. And, helping children become more physically active.
There are probably thousands of links where republicans have spouted off at how Michelle Obama's program/ideas are intrusive.
And then there's this:
Senate, House Leaders Introduce Bill to Provide Certainty to Employers Offering Innovative Employee Wellness Programs
Reps. John Kline (R-MN), Tim Walberg (R-MI), and Phil Roe (R-TN), and U.S. Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Tim Scott (R-SC), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Pat Roberts (R-KS), yesterday introduced legislation to provide legal certainty--and eliminate confusion caused by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)--for employers offering employee wellness programs that lower health insurance premiums to reward healthy lifestyle choices.
"Employee wellness programs not only help control the cost of health insurance," said Kline, chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, "but they also promote healthy lifestyles. Remarkably, executive overreach by the EEOC is actually punishing employers for offering wellness plans. Congress must take action to rein in this agency and provide the certainty necessary for more Americans to enjoy the benefits of these innovative health programs."
In case you missed it, I'll repeat:
Congress must take action to rein in this agency and provide the certainty necessary for more Americans to enjoy the benefits of these innovative health programs.
You wonder where the EEOC comes into play?
Here is an article that explains it all.
Obama Is Smack In The Middle Of A Brewing Fight Over Workplace Wellness
If you work for a big company that offers you health insurance, chances are that your employer has asked you to take part in some kind of "workplace wellness" program. It might mean nothing more than answering a few questions about your diet and exercise habits. Or it could mean providing more detailed information about your medical status and lifestyle -- and, in some cases, agreeing to individualized targets for weight loss, blood pressure and other vital health indicators.
In principle, the choice to participate in the program is yours. But if you say no, your employer might charge you higher health insurance premiums, to the tune of thousands of extra dollars a year.
And that's exactly where my family is now: Pay thousands of extra dollars a year to the CEOs of the health insurance companies and their shareholders or share all of our personal medical history with everyone. And when I say "everyone," I mean everyone, especially the employer. It would be foolish to think that the employer won't have access to our medical history, considering the nurse who is on site at the workplace receives the form filled out by the primary care provider, and THEN interviews you to complete the
program.
And here's exactly what has to be filled out on one form -- not counting the mandatory annual physical form:
Height, weight, BMI, waist size, blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL, TC/HDL ratio, and blood sugar.
