So, Kerry is now babbling about talking to Assad, something we should have considered before emulating our failed Libya policy, a copy of a long-running series of failed policies such as our one time Afghanistan policy.
This is preface to recommending the following article: Asia Times Online :: The West's criminal culpability in Syria
I'm trying to get people to read this not to beat up on Uncle Stupid so much as to try and get people to think about what it says and learn something about this disastrous and obnoxious policy we have of fomenting proxy wars all over the globe. We do not need to run everything, everywhere, either directly or via puppets; we really don't.
A small sample of stuff worth learning - at a point when the small uprising against Assad was clearly doomed, we had to decide whether to let Assad "win" or whether to continue to try to topple him for failing to follow orders.
We all know - or should know - what choice was made. And we should know - but probably don't know - the actual cost. Consider these numbers: 7,000 … and 193,000.
The first, 7,000, is the estimated death count for the Syrian unrest after the Syrian government had crushed the rebel enclave in Homs in February 2012 and shattered the domestic uprising.
The second, 193,000 is the death toll since then … since the United States, the GCC, Turkey, and their enablers began pumping money, arms, and diplomatic support into the various Syria-based paramilitaries that eventually encompassed not only the hapless Free Syrian Army but Al-Qaeda, IS, and their affiliates and allies.
Read it, please, it is worth it.
