The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note of any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
I stole the title from Robt. Service, 'While the Bannock Bakes' no offense intended to the worthy Bucket contributor of the same name.

The recent solar activity kicked up some dandy sky shows, the shot above was taken March 16, a date hereafter to be known as the night I went to bed too early.
The colors above had their origin on the other end of the sky, at this 'fountain'.
On March 20, there was a brief period between clouds, this is the best I got that night.
This shot and the rest are from March 16, after I went to bed. My son Forest was kind enough to let me steal a few of his. He's young, and he knows the buttons on his camera already. His first lesson, if you can't quite get the shot you want,-
-move.
The white is rare in Aurora, green the most common, reds and violets less so.
for a little more info about aurora, my previous diary on the subject is here http://www.dailykos.com/...
Directly overhead perspective often produces a stunning feature.
The post production knobs twisted to 11 in an attempt to show the illusion that appears in such a view. The whole display seems to be centered on the observer. A much more pronounced effect in person, the curtains one looks up are usually 90 to 140 KM deep.
