This seems to be the most popular defence used by those that created Indiana's new religious objections law.
Basically it is meant to protect religions from non-existent government persecution/interference.
It is not meant to change anything else.
So in essence there was no need for the law at all.
Two things come to mind.
What a waste of time and money.
It's a vacuous law designed to appease only the religious right.
So what we are left with is a useless piece of dogma that gives the perception that discrimination on religious grounds is OK.
So if it is as harmless/useless as it creators want us to believe, why bother in the first place?
Is it a trial balloon to see if it floats so that it paves the way for more discriminatory legislation?
So, basically Indiana's elected representatives have created a piece of legislation that has been designed to do nothing but may well end up costing the State millions in business and tax revenue. If that is your defence, it's pretty weak.
Republicans just love frothing at the mouth over non existent problems, gay marriage will ruin my own!
Unless they really do mean for it to discriminate, which seems the more likely intent when you listen to them closely. Voter ID laws, abortion laws, family values, women's equality and immigration for example.
