I have a lifetime subscription to DKos under another nom that I no longer use. I understand that subscriptions are non-transferable, and I get that. Don't understand it, but I get it. I'm not buying another one (the lifetime subscriptions aren't available anymore anyway...) just to stop the ads.
What I don't get: Why has the advertisement "load" on the site has come to the point where I have to use various ad blocking programs just to read diaries and comments here? It's gotten so bad that every other time I log in (i5 dual core machine, Win 7, latest Firefox, Java updates, etc. etc.) either the site totally locks up on me (and locks up browser), or I get Flash script errors that I have to wait out or completely shutdown my computer to clear. I do tech support for a living, for cripes sakes, and I can't figure out the right combinations to make DKos work consistently for me.
However, when I run my ad blocking programs, these issues don't happen.
I purposefully whitelisted DKos so the site would get the ad revenue from my loading the ads. Also, I know full well that no one on the site admin team gets to pick and choose what ads are served on DKos. But guys, the site is becoming unusable without running my ad blocking programs.
Again, I know, I could buy another subscription. That's not gonna happen. What I would appreciate is some tweaking and tuning of the site code so it's not crashing a fairly up-to-date system every time I log in. I can't begin to imagine what folks who have older machines go through to get to the site...
Thanks,
Z
