Rand Paul announced his candidacy for President earlier this week. He used the hack expression, "We're here today to take back our country." Perfect expression for a Libertarian isn't it, since they believe in private ownership of everything? That fingernail on the blackboard expression implies it was his country to own - which it is not. Rand Paul, Tea Party activists, evangelicals, Fox News, and a host of others invoke this expression all of the time. Hey, if it's yours then the rest of us are just renters, right? If that's the case, fix the water damage on my steps Mr. Landlord. No, righties, it is not your country, it is our country. Saying you own it is a lousy place to begin a serious discussion. It's about as effective as telling your spouse, "Okay, we can discuss this but let's begin by saying it's your fault. See how well that goes, why dontcha. The phrase "take our country back is divisive. It's also just a bunch of nonsense, and anyone who seeks to govern without realizing what you say in trying to get the nomination is long remembered after you get it is asking for trouble. Just ask Mitt Romney.
