Presidential primaries offer the opportunity for open public discussion of political ideas and positions. There are televised debates which are basically free publicity. There are open discussions of things like the best way for Democrats to deal with SS, unemployment insurance, income inequality, etc.
It could be a great time to discus contrasting ideas to improve Obamacare or push for single payer.
In other words here are the things Democrats want.
So in California Jerry Brown runs against Hillary, in New York we have Bill de Blasio. Encourage each state with a primary to put forward a ‘favorite son/daughter’ in a campaign to highlight Democratic Party values and proposals.
The objective is to get Democrats signed onto and committed to an idea or two they are willing to standup for, campaign on and become active in the November election. Let’s make the Convention a ‘battleground’ of ideas.
It can also give us a platform to showcase rising stars and polish statewide name recognition for future serious House, Senate and Governor candidates.
Everybody wins.
