After reading a column from the NY Times I came to the conclusion as my title states Hillary is our only choice.
I have nothing against Hillary Clinton, and I think she has an impressive resume. It is true that I did support candidate Barack Obama since I saw his speech in Springfield announcing his run for President. Even though all the polls show Clinton hovering over 60% even before her official candidacy on Sunday Democrats have not made up their minds about which candidate they will nominate. It is simply too early to call and we should not simply call Clinton our nominee till people head to the polls.
I am happy about the field of candidates that we have and I feel that all of our candidates can win against the long list of Republicans have.
Former Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley has an impressive record while he was the executive of Maryland. Championing such accomplishments: Ending the death penalty, increasing public transit of a 16 mile light rail system to alleviate traffic (purple line) that might be shelved by the current Republican Governor, increasing the minimum wage, freezing increases in public colleges while pumping more money into school construction, increasing money for subsidized health care for his state, and not being afraid to increase taxes when it was needed to protect the working class and education who are always the ones that are first on the chopping block in budget fights. O’Malley was also a valued asset on the campaign trail the past two election cycles focusing on the fundamentals of what it is to be a Democrat.
Senator Sanders is a different breed compared to any other candidate in the race for the Democratic nomination. Yes Sanders like O’Malley is a long shot, but he does have an entire wing of the party that can get behind him. Being an Independent Senator from Vermont he has made a career being a bold Progressive calling for a more fair system and ending roadblocks that the middle class has in front of them to get them out of recession mode. Sanders even asks the question “What Clinton is running on and stating there has to be a serious discussion on issues that this country is facing”. Going into the race you know what Sanders is running on which is ending perpetual war, fighting for the middle class, and having the rich in this country pay their fair share.
Even if Warren was running she would be fighting for these same ideals, but getting Sanders into the race will we see Clinton put these thoughts into action if she gets the nominee or if she wins the race? That is why at least in my view a lot of Liberals are weary about simply throwing their support to Clinton even if she is still hovering around the 60% in polls.
The race is still early to call and far away from the Iowa Primary on January 18th. There is plenty of time for voters to get to know these two candidates and ultimately decide who they will pick as the Democratic Nominee for President, but we should not call it a win for Clinton just yet like some talking heads are already proposing.
