Republicans won big in elections again in 2014, thanks in large part to low turnout and thanks to rigged districts. In 2012 more people voted for Democrats in congress yet republicans gained most of the seats and since then what have they really done?
In the 2014 Defense Authorization act they gave Native American burial grounds in Arizona to a foreign mining company with a history of mining uranium for Iran. They are "outraged" that Hillary Clinton may have helped Russia acquire uranium which they may have sold to Iran while they have went right ahead and done business with a company that does have ties to Iran.
Voted over 400 times the last 4 years to weaken environmental laws that would allow for more pollution and weaker regulations on oil, gas and coal companies while putting stricter regulations on green energy companies and cutting and tax breaks for green energy while fully supporting corporate welfare for fossil fuel companies.
Made it harder to vote, that's right 200 years of men and women fighting and dying for that right and republicans are trying to take it away. Yes you need a photo ID for driving etc but many people don't do those things, having tried personally to get a photo ID for a disabled army veteran (my father) and missing some of the paperwork required it is expensive and time consuming which can be construed as a poll tax. These laws often effect poor people, minorities and women and since they have been enacted more and more republicans are getting elected to office.
Since Heller rewrote the 2nd amendment republicans have been doing everything the NRA has asked of them and more, even after tragedies that have taken the lives of children. They have spent over 20 years weakening the ATF and making it almost impossible to prosecute gun sellers who knowingly sell guns to criminals and thanks to the GOP / NRA suspected terrorists are not prohibited from buying guns. That's right they can not fly on planes but can walk into a gun store and out with an assault rifle. Even things that are supported by most Americans like background checks for gun purchases they have fought again and defeated. There are known gun shows that have "misplaced" hundreds of guns but nothing the ATF can do about it thanks to strict laws on how many times they can audit dealers and what they can do about it. Gun makers and sellers can not be prosecuted if someone who shouldn't own a gun buys one legally and kills people but if this same person goes into a bar and gets drunk killing someone on their way home the bar and bartender can be prosecuted.
Postal service - one of the few things actually in the constitution the republicans have tried to destroy by imposing regulations that would kill any business, do they want these regulations for all business? No just the post office - in 2005 the post office was thriving turning big profits so in 2006 republicans passed the PAEA which forced the USPS to fund pensions and health benefits for 75 years, that's right they had to fund retirement benefits for people who are not even born yet. This turned the postal service record profits into massive debts and republicans pounced on them saying it is a failure and example of government gone wrong the whole time ignoring it's a problem of their own making.
Personal Freedoms -- Since 2001 republicans have been on a mission to limit personal freedoms they have
Voted against gay marriage and rights declaring homosexuals as 2nd class citizens
Made funding online poker a crime (this benefited Sheldon Adelson who now spends hundreds of millions to help republicans win elections)
Voted hundreds of times to restrict abortion or outright make it a crime
voted and support the Patriot act
All the while voting to give corporations more freedoms than individuals.
That's not to mention their votes against equal pay for women, cutting food stamps, childrens health insurance, meals on wheels all while giving tax breaks to rich individuals and corporations who already pay record low taxes.
The most important thing is unless you pay close attention to politics you would not know the republican true agenda because they very seldom pass bills that would show all of America their true agenda but instead they sneak their agenda into other bills that need to be passed. You will not see republicans come out and say "we want to cut Donald Trumps taxes and pay for it by making that single mother working 2 jobs get a 3rd one" or "We know people are getting sick and dying from poison in the air and water from fossil fuel companies but the money they give us is more important than your life" they sneak them into defense bills or in the anti-abortion case put it in a human trafficking law. That's right they put strict anti-abortion language in a bill that was supposed to help stop human trafficking then when a democrat votes against it they scream "he supports human trafficking".
This practice was common from 2001-2006 when the GOP controlled congress, senate and white house, they put things like the anti-online poker language in defense bills and as soon as a democrat spoke out about it they screamed "he hates our troops". I don't expect most Americans to wake up and see what really is going on but it would be nice if people who "claim" to be educated really do some research into what is really going on.
This is why up until 2004 I mostly voted republican, I still even have my Bush/Cheney campaign stuff from the 2000 election. After the Iraq war I started doing my research instead of blindly believing what the news or politicians said like I had been and slowly stopped voting for republicans until this last election (2014) I voted straight democrat for the first time in my life.
