Uh-oh. Coincidence? Or spooky overload? You decide.
First this:
Then this!
Tuesday! A day to grab a fire extinguisher.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
We do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

Last week on IAN I wrote about a 50-year-old football game at a New England prep school: and the fire that consumed a large science building on campus, while the game continued. The home team, Mt. Hermon, lost the game. And the science building.
Last Friday, May 15th, I'm watching my beloved SF Giants play the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, fronting on the Ohio River.
And what happens? This:
Yikes! Here's the story in some detail.
And a few more photos.
(Notice the score??)
Now IMO, from my couch 2000 miles away, the stadium, the fans, and the two teams were not in danger from the fire. It was a big distraction, of course. The Giants' broadcasters could hardly focus on the game for a while, as they and the rest of us realized that the smoke--and then flames--spewing out of the faux smokestack at Great American Ballpark were not part of the regular celebratory smoke that appears from the "Tall Stacks Feature" when a Reds pitcher strikes out a batter or the fireworks shot off when a Reds player hits a home run. (The smokestacks are part of a faux paddle-wheeler river boat theme at this park on the Ohio River.)
Still the fire was worrisome. After all, the Stacks contain propane. . . and fireworks, so, yikes. Apparently some Cincinnati Fire Dept. personnel are at every game anyway, Just In Case.
A section of the bleachers was evacuated for a while, because of the smoke. The managers of the two teams were asked if they wanted to stop the game. They both said no. And the only apparent damage was to a few of the 7 fake bats at the top of the stack, which got charred. (By the way, baseball fans, each one of those two stacks has a "crown" of 7 "bats", 14 in total. These are an homage to one of baseball's greatest players and Major Bad Boy, Pete Rose, #14.
Maybe in 50 years these photos will be a curiosity akin to the prep school fire/football game photo back in 1965.
BTW, the Giants won the game, 10-2. So, once again--sorry Mt. Hermon and Reds--the home team at a fire-sports mashup, loses the game. Lately the Giants have been on fire, win-wise, but I didn't see this coming! (Even after I wrote the May 12th IAN!!)
Got to go check my fire extinguishers. . .
Stay safe.
