Look I'm all for free speech. I talk a lot. I got a lot to say. I wouldn't like the idea of saying something in public or online that might cause me to lose my livelihood, but most people should realize that's a risk you take for saying what you think out loud, in print, or on facebook.
Some people apparently don't realize that yet.
Like this Florida Principal who was fired because of his "ardent support for Cpl Casebolt.".
"He did nothing wrong. He was afraid for his life," Iber posted on a Miami Herald story. "I commend him for his actions."
"That's a bad thing for being a principal at North Miami Senior High School," said a student. "How can you defend a man who pulled a gun on teenagers?"
Iber apparently didn't realize the Facebook-based comment system on the Herald would include his name and picture on his post. However when one is Principal of a school which has 95% minority students supports the violent actions of an Officer whose own Police chief said was "Out of Control", it can have consequences.
And the school district agreed. Iber was removed from the position and a replacement will be named soon, Miami-Dade Schools officials said in a statement Wednesday.
"Miami-Dade County Public Schools employees are held to a higher standard, and by School Board policy, are required to conduct themselves, both personally and professionally, in a manner that represents the school district’s core values," the statement said.
And as you'll see over the flip, he's far from the only one.
Then you had his post from Texas Teacher who essentially called for the reinstitution of segregation.
A post appeared on the Facebook page of Karen Fitzgibbons, an educator at Bennett Elementary School in McKinney, expressing anger that the officer seen violently throwing a young black girl in a bikini to the ground resigned after a video of the incident was released.
“The blacks are the ones causing the problems and this ‘racial tension,’” the author wrote. “I guess that’s what happens when you flunk out of school and have no education… I’m almost to the point of wanting them all segregated on one side of town so they can hurt each other and leave the innocent people alone.”
And here we have some people who potentially could be fired, but haven't been, yet, such as this suburban Detroit City council candidate who stated in response to the idea that "Black Lives Matter" that police should just "
If there is any doubt Shoot First.. ask question later".
“Without a doubt it is blacks wanting to kill cops,” Judnick posted late Tuesday. “My advise (sic) to all police. When there is any doubt … shoot!”
Like many of his ilk, he was quickly offended by the suggestion - including the "blacks want to kill cops" part - that anything he'd just said was "racist". Because of course, it's not.
“Nice try,” Judnick said. “Hide behind your computer and paint me with your racist brush. You need to go back to school and learn to read. I said ‘to all police’ Shoot who???? When an officer kills someone in self-defense i don’t think skin color matters to him. Would it to you?”
Yeah, sure, right. ok.
This is a guy who probably can't be "fired" because he owns his own butchering and taxidermy business, which is frankly a fairly logical if somewhat creepy combination, but that doesn't mean Detroit needs to hire this guy for their city council. Not after he also said this.
He also made threatening remarks during a debate over a mosque proposed near the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City.
“Let ‘em fill it up with 400,000 rag head Muslims,” Smith said in a 2010 email he distributed. “Then we can crash a radio control 747 into it and roast the bastards.”
Charming fellow that guy is.
We have a Florida Official who complained when talking to his brother, who had been jailed for trying to kill a police officer during a struggle over a shotgun he claimed he was going to use to commit suicide with, that he had to "wait behind N-iggers" to visit him in jail.
Barber complained during the call, which was recorded and reviewed by a jail administrator as part of standard procedure, that he was forced to wait to visit his brother while black visitors went ahead of him.
“What’s so bad they’ve run everybody out but them,” Barber said during the call. “Last week they run everybody out but one, then let two n***s walk in there and sit right in front of us.”
“That was kind of a slap in the face,” he said.
Then you have this guy, Rich Kent, who hasn't just said a couple things here and there, he's started a
GoFundMe campaign to keep Al Sharpton out of Mckinney even though he's not coming and is scheduled to be in New York on Saturday.
Kent took to the fundraising site GoFundMe seeking $1 million for what he called a “Counter Sharpton” rally that would “stop the decay of our country.”
“We are going to go to your little hotels, your little hiding spots, everywhere I can think of, and we are gonna run you out of Texas,” he says. “This is not a warning — this is a promise. We will be there. You will see me. You will leave Texas.”
On the Gofund me page it reads. "America, we are at a crossroads. Help me stop the decay of our country. Help me combat men like Al Sharpton and the one's who purposely push agendas of hate. Compassion is how we restore America, not hate. Help #RunwithRich as I am on my way to Mckinney, Texas on Saturday June 13th, 2015 to have a #CounterSharpton rally. Even if you cannot attend the rally, you can donate to help the organizers and marchers. Sharpton 's hate stops in Texas! After the rally, all donations will go to fund homes for homeless Veterans. "
If this guy truly think Al Sharpton has an "agenda of hate" he's either clueless, flat-out deluded, racist or all the above.
And of course, in a subsequent video he says he's "Not Racist". No, not at all. And boy is he convincing.
Nowhere did I say I was going to come in and harm your savior, Al Sharpton, OK? Never did I say that,” Kent said. “I did say you guys are not coming in here and you’re not going to stample (sic) on Texas property rights. These are Texans — these ain’t Maryland people, these ain’t people of Baltimore or Ferguson. In Texas we are not going to stand by and let you riot. We are not going to let you destroy our cities.”
“I’m sorry if your family didn’t raise you right, didn’t teach you right, and you’ve got to follow a daddy like Sharpton,” he said.
So in this guys mind Al Sharpton brings "Riots"? Uh huh. Al Shapton is on TV
every day, I double dog dare this guy to find one clip, one second, where Sharpton is expressing "Hate" toward anyone, including police.
None of these guys seem to be aware, and that is of course by the design of Conservative Media that the fighting and "rioting" in McKinney was started by White People. It was a pair of White adults who attacked a black teenage girl, that's where the "fighting" began and one of those adults has lost her job for it too.
In response, social justice action group Dallas Communities Organizing for Change launched a Twitter campaign asking BofA to take action against her with this tweet:
But BofA conducted an investigation and found Allbritton actually works for CoreLogic, a Bank of America vendor that provides financial profiles to the banking giant that are key in making mortgage lending decisions, the Daily Kos reports.
“CoreLogic does not condone violence, discrimination or harassment and takes conduct that is inconsistent with our values and expectations very seriously,” the firm wrote in a statement reported by Dallas News. “As a result of these pending allegations, we have placed the employee in question on administrative leave while further investigations take place.
Or that the guy who called the police there
is also the same guy who hurled racial slurs and bigoted taunts at the teenagers.
In the case of McKinney Texas it simply wasn't "All the blacks causing the trouble and racial tensions", it's not the case that "all the blacks want to kill cops", it's not the situation that the problem is "Al Sharpton's agenda of Hate" - the problem begins with people who have that attitude and automatically assume all guilt, all animosity, all types of levels of fear, and any and all unjustified force should be directed at black people. Even when they're just kids. Even when they're in the process of leaving, or running away or very probably had their hands up in surrender.
All to protect the "innocent people", but of course. To them, black people are never "innocent" because you need to "Shoot First" before they "Shiv You".
I don't know if firing these people is the solution, sure employers have a right to decide who should represent them and it might get their attention on their inappropriate words and actions but it might also continue to foster their own resentment at "Political Correctness". They might go back to just using more coded language and hidden dog-whistles and that doesn't help anyone as it tends to foster a hype-sensitivity when the bigots all go underground and play word games like "Thug" instead of saying what they really mean.
"Black Fuckers" and/or "N*ggers".
We need to address the sources of this fear and resentment. We need to tear down the wall between these various communities who all in the end just want the best for the people around them. If we can get them past the idea that better schools, better jobs, and less crime for black people isn't a threat to their schools, jobs and safety the better off we'll all be.
