Nooooooooooooo.
Leave it to Fox News to be the prime dispenser of the exact sort of nonsensical
liberals 'n black folks are a-stealin' our heritages that got South Carolina heritage-protector Dylann Roof so worked up in the first place. They're not the only ones, mind you—for that you'd have to go to the
Council of Conservative Citizens themselves—but they continue to play their important role as reliable fountains of right-wing rhetoric that people like Dylann Roof usually have to search the internet for theirownselves, rather than having it handed to them in segments loaded with American flag iconography and dramatically scored title sequences heralding the arrival of today's reason why such-and-such is about to destroy the nation if you don't shut up
right now and do what Mike Huckabee tells you to do.
Talking head Todd Starnes in particular is whistling like a tea kettle, taking to Twitter to bubble at the #culturalcleansing of taking down America's deeply beloved symbols of when black people weren't allowed in white people schools. He "explained" his stance, if that's the word we want to go with, in a turgid FoxNews.com rant that touched all the bases of mean people are coming to ban your "culture" that makes the daily tides of Fox News pants-wetting what it is.
It won’t be too long before they start renaming cities and towns and counties named after Confederates. And I reckon it’s only a matter of time before they bulldoze the Confederate grave yards and war memorials too.
Maybe we can just pretend the Civil War never happened.
I’m assuming Hollywood will cooperate with the South’s cultural cleansing by eradicating any copies of “Gone with the Wind” and “Forrest Gump.” Forrest was named after the aforementioned Nathan Bedford Forrest.
I do wonder, though, about those good ole boys from Hazzard County. What are Bo and Luke Duke are going to do with the General Lee?
Maybe they could just paint a rainbow flag on top and call it the General Sherman.
He culturally cleansed the South, too.
That's the stuff. If you can't compare Walmart not selling rebel flags to Sherman's March to the Sea, you're not being Fox News enough. I'm sure that screaming that liberals and black folks are coming for a "cultural cleansing" will have exactly the desired effect on the Fox News audience, by which we mean they will all be waving their guns around at rallies by the end of next week, each of them pretty goddamn sure that gay people are going to be painting their rainbow flags on the monuments for some reason.
However do far-right mass murderers get the idea that if they simply act out on their radical terrorist fantasies, a large swath of their fellow right-thinkers will rise up and finish the job? The two people who went to Las Vegas after their Bundy Ranch stint were certain that executing two police officers would finally kick off the revolution against the government that Cliven Bundy demanded in his Fox News appearances. The jackass kid with the gun and the Confederate flag was pretty sure that if he just killed a church's worth of black Americans, all the people who had been screaming that black people were poisoning our "culture" would rally behind him to help finish the job. Where do these people get the idea that they are in a battle for their very "culture" that can only end when one side wins, and the other side dies.
