This is full-fledged ridiculousness.
I don't want to be insensitive here, but...
I don't think any mass shootings at theaters have been by black folk.
Yet, a movie, a critically acclaimed movie at that, featuring a story about men who are now grandfathers, has to have increased security across the country? If you grew up listening to NWA, you are now at least 35 years old, maybe 45 years old. Dr. Dre is 50 years old his damn self.
Universal, who said they'd foot the bill for the security, said in a statement that it wasn't their idea, but that of local theaters.
"We're very proud of our association with 'Straight Outta Compton,' and the film's been seen nationwide by thousands of people in hundreds of screenings and all of those have occurred without incident," said a Universal spokesman. "The studio has not solicited enhanced security for theaters who will begin showing the film this weekend, but it has partnered with those exhibitors who've requested support for their location."
It doesn't even make sense.
What the hell do they think black folk are going to do? It's clear case of race-based fear-mongering that has absolutely nothing to do with the reality of safety risks in movie theaters.
