Ahhh, nothing like the smell of click bait in the afternoon...
I say that because I know very well how evil that title looks, in a number of ways. But I actually have a serious point to make with an actual source for some recent words from Hillary Clinton.
Somewhere buried under the videos of BS email questions that Andrea Mitchell (spouse of Mr. Moral Hazard) asks in her interview with Clinton,, AM throws a tough question at Clinton about what she thinks when voters find candidates like Biden or Sanders more authentic.
The answer to my title's question after the orange crest of Satan.
Did Hillary Clinton Just "flip the bird" at Sanders' Supporters?
No, she didn't.
NBC would have you believe otherwise. It has reported online this way:
But asked about why voters find Biden and challenger Bernie Sanders more authentic than Clinton, the former secretary of state seemed to take subtle dig at Sanders. "I started out listening because I think you can come with your own ideas and you can wave your arms and give a speech, but at the end of the day, are you connecting with and really hearing?" she said.
Nice huh?
But that is not how it happened! And now other news outlets are reporting it with that spin. It is mostly about creating some drama to get the two candidates sparing.
First off, from the time of Mitchell's question to the time Clinton says what is in that quote, nearly 40 seconds elapse. The little snippet above gives no hint of that, but makes Clinton's words sound like they were the first sentence in response. They're creating an impression that is basically a lie. And they know they are doing it. During that 40 seconds Clinton tries to laugh off the question, then evades by discussing her campaign and then pivots to "That's why I've started out listening..." Then comes that remark.

So please, sistren and brethren supporters of Bernie Sanders:
1) Please don't take the bait. Whether it's from MSNBC or even in the unlikely chance "Clinton was just looking for a chance to slide that it somewhere".
2) Stay on issues.
3) Keep alert for the reporting of phrases out of context, whether it comes from MSNBC, Fox or DK diaries. Rev. Wright was viciously attacked with that tactic and he is a good man who didn't deserve any of that crap. We all should have learned about the dangers of not looking for the wider context from that and from the disheartening firing of Shirley Sherrod.
Context matters !!! Say it with me: Context matters !!!
Research before reacting!
And I'm sorry about the clickbait title. The real title of this diary is:
We are All Constantly Being Played by Experts in the Industry of Lying and Creating False "Needs".
UPDATE: Thank you for the discussion. If some of you missed the main message I intended due to my oblique entry into the topic, what I meant was that:
NBC published a brief paragraph on their website that:
1) summarized Mitchell's question.
2) guided how readers should interpret Clinton's response with "seemed to take subtle dig at Sanders".
3) left out 40 seconds of the interview before Clinton said "I started out listening because I think you can come with your own ideas and you can wave your arms and give a speech, but at the end of the day, are you connecting with and really hearing?"
4) the writeup made Clinton's sentence look like the complete and only response to the question, which dramatizes it a lot more.
5) the manipulation by nbc is pretty obvious. Using quotes out of context is a disgusting practice and we need to be alert to those.
About the poll:
I'm pleased that so many had their priorities in good order and voted for blueberry pie. I'm thankful to hear that most others also see this media manipulation and the problems that quoting out of context can create. I'm a little perturbed there are people who did not know who Shirley Sherrod is and didn't seem to care to look that up.
