I wrote a diary this week asking why someone representing the ACA for our country doesn't buy drugs in bulk for all hospitals.I once sold a suction catheter kit to a large
hospital for less than a dollar. The hospital charged the patient $29.50 for the kit. I was
told at the time that expenses had to be covered for people with no insurance. The ACA
needs to change that. I doubt if the Veterans Hospitals pay full price for drugs used.
Costco has great prices, but you have to buy more than you might need. If a person refuses to buy insurance, the hospital should go after them. Tell that patient a collection
agency will chase them. Good credit is important, perhaps that will force people to have
insurance. My ex-brother-in-law paid $10,000 for knee surgery, He carries no insurance
and will not buy anything from our Government. He makes Republican's seem liberal.
It does n't matter to him the surgery would probably cost less with insurance. I wonder
how many people in this country think like him.If a person has assets, my advice is
to buy insurance.
Poor people will get care, but what quality? My son spent a night in the hospital. He
had a broken knee and needed help getting around, After pressing the buzzer many
times, a nurse who was laughing in the next room, finally answered ,WHAT? It was too
late, he had already wet himself. He put a cover on the wet spot and slept on soiled
sheets the rest of the night.
It's impossible to hope for loving and caring nurses all the time. We need to work on
lowering costs for all when a hospital stay is needed. We also need a system where
the caregivers have no idea if your poor or wealthy.
Good medical care is a right for all in this country. Now let's make it as efficient as possible.
