House Republicans, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, prevailed in a vote Thursday to redefine full-time employment in Obamacare. The vote was 252-172. Republicans have been pretending that the law's definition of full-time employment at 30 hours has caused employers to cut worker's work weeks—and thus their paychecks—to under 30 hours so they don't have to provide insurance.
They call this bill the "Save American Workers Act," even though there's no evidence that Obamacare has caused significant numbers of businesses to cut workers' hours and their proposal gives employers every incentive to end health insurance coverage to their full-time employees. According to the Congressional Budget Office, up to a million people could be in that boat.
But, hey, it's a good deal for corporate America. Of course the Chamber of Commerce loves it!
