Going hard for my city! You know!
I’m going to the Hillary for America Volunteer rally in Texas!
I’m not sharing the Details or even the city and date because I don’t believe this is a public event. I’m very active on the Hillary Clinton Website have volunteered and even applied for a job with her campaign (Basic Tech support Lvl1). I also Sent in a short essay I had written to explain why her Campaign was so important to me and why I feel it Important to all Americans. Possibly as a result, or more likely just because I volunteered, My Wife and I received a call from a Staffer to invite us to a rally. I was beyond excited and still am!
For years as a Texas Democrat I’ve felt like the minority in my home state. I won’t put my Democrat bumper stickers on my cars body because I fear getting it keyed or my door handles pissed on. I keep them displayed on my plastic dashboard inside the cab to remind me of what I need to fight for! I keep them on the back of my Folders and clipboards when I play tabletop games (Dungeons & Dragons) or hang with my friends and draw silly pictures and giggle. I’ve always felt like an outsider here in Texas (I was born and raised here) because of what I believe. I’ve gotten full blown screamed at, insulted, and all kinds of other bullshit when I tried to independently campaign for Obama. I’ve always supported Democrats since I turned 18 (we need them local Dems to win). And when I say Support I mean just wearing Obama shirts and being willing to speak to people. Obama was the first President I’ve ever been able to vote for, so I did it twice! (08’ & ’12). After wearing my Obama gear and being called “faggot” for the millionth time I stopped wearing it around on the street (I had kept wearing my ‘The only truth before us is Obama’ jacket after the big win.) In a related note my father also wore an Obama hat I got for him and was turned away from the poll in 2012. They forced him to go home even though he was able to produce photo ID, and bring his voter registration card. He got it, Voted, and called the officials at the poll Un-American fascist but it was 3 hours of waiting.
I’m a 26 year old male, mixed ethnicity, Lower income background. The street I grew up on is now in the center of an Obama Promise Zone.
Hillary being the First Presidential candidate in my life time to come here to my town has me VERY EXCITED! So you know what, I’m going to do it again I’m going hard for my city! If Hillary can stand up and endure those slings and arrows then let these fools call me a faggot again. If she can stand up and endure the barrage of insults and sexist then Dog-Gone-It so can I!
I have always tried to engage my nonpolitical friends. When they see my stickers, I tell them why I believe what I believe, and try to tailor my message to what I know speaks to them. My wife’s step-father, who is both full blooded Latino and not engaged, Is who I speak to about Trump’s latest promise to dig up his ancestors and deport their bones! (Just a joke) I speak to my young Counter-Culture friends of the Right’s intention to roll back legalization and imprison nonviolent drug war victims. I speak to local disengaged young men about the opportunities Hillary’s college plan can provide to them. I speak to young women about the progress in women’s right we need to both protect and expand. I push hard in my circle for family and friends but no so much outside that.
But I feel as though I’m final seeing the city I live in. I’m ready to take our state back from those who would seek to own our freedoms. I’m ready for whatever you have to say when I step up here. You’ll see me on the streets soon enough pushing for Hillary.
Thank you,
Aaron Mc.
