Did you know that Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley has been a real champion working with Congressman Mike Honda of California on calling attention to the need to reduce the rape kit backlog in our nation? There are an estimated 500,000 untested rape kits collecting dust in the evidence rooms of law enforcement and crime labs which need to be tested to provide DNA evidence in rape crimes.
Congressman Honda, as a Senior Member of the House Appropriations Committee, has helped secure about $40 million in funding within the House Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2015. This will go a long way to reduce the sexual assault kit backlog nationwide and put convicted rapists behind bars. Congressman Honda continues to work with DA O’Malley on securing more resources to ensure that the rape kit backlog is reduced and incarcerate dangerous predators.
Thank you Congressman Honda and DA Nancy O'Malley! Our nation deserves safer streets.
